Black Sunday in Cameroon: victims’ families count losses after over 50 deaths

Several families are still mourning following yesterday’s accident at Nomale, Ndikinimeki in Cameroon’s Centre Region.

Among those being mourned are Mr. Foreh Hamid and his wife, Sama Lilian. The late French teacher and principal of GSS Kefung in Baba 1, Ngoketunjia and wife were among the close to 50 casualties.

Close family sources say he was the breadwinner of his family, and his death has left many stranded.

“He was like a father to me. They (he and his wife) have been the ones taking care of me and a host of other children in the family,” he says.

Government officials paid a visit to the site of the accident yesterday, and also visited the injured in some health facilities.

Many however say visits and press statements are not enough and more should be done to prevent such accidents from ever happening again.
