The atmosphere in Bafmeng, Fungom subdivision in Menchum division of the North West Region has been tense, after the people lynched four suspected pro independence fighters.
The incident is said to have occurred Thursday, November 1st 2018, at the Bafmeng market around 2:00pm, after an alleged “commando” of the Amba boys in the area, left his gun with one of the fighters who is said to be an amateur in operating a gun.
The guy in question, whose name, MMI got as Ngong Michael, “mistakenly” shot a forteen year old girl who was hawking to death. We cannot confirm reports that he was unaware the gun was loaded.
The victim died before the rescue team could arrived the hospital, Mimi Mefo info has learned.
In retaliation, the angry mob descended on Ngong Michael. Ngong Randy, who is said to have been with Ngong Michael when the incident occurred, was not equally spared by the angry mob. Two other purpoted “Commandos” of the Amba boys who tried to intervene did not survive the mob action.
Their bodies were found in a river around the Binjam road towards Wum after a mbororo living in the area testified having noticed people around there earlier; who apparently came to dump the bodies.
Two guns confiscated from the commandos are said to have been handed to the fon of Bafmeng whose whereabout is unknown. Denizens of Bafmeng are on the run, Mimi Mefo info was told.
An Uneasy calm now reigns in Bafmeng; the main way into Menchum after the destruction of the Wum-Bamenda bridge which has paralysed movements on the road for months.
