Reports from Bonaberi in Douala say a mixed contingent of uniform officers have been conducting house searches for household appliances that do not have receipts.
The mixed team of uniform officers, composed of Police, Gendarmes and the BIR, have been there since Friday night, an inhabitant says.
An inhabitant of Bonaberi has told MMI that the officers are “also searching for unwanted appliances that we don’t know (maybe weapons). They are even lifting up our beds and matraces. Asking of ID cards. Many men and women has been taken away by the policemen.”
The Ndobo neighborhood in Bonaberi is dorminated by English-speaking inhabitants but it is yet uncertain whether the officers were targeting Anglophones.
Inhabitants say the Bonaberi area is more liable to police searches unlike other parts of the city of Douala.
