Brazil – Cameroon: can the Lions really do it?

“We’ve done it before, and we can do it again…” Were Rigobert Song’s words at the pre-match press conference before the collosal clash.

It is a statement that more the than 26 million Cameroonian wish would come to fruition on Friday December 2nd 2022, as the the Indomitable Lions face Brazil.

However, there are lots of concerns among Cameroonians when it comes to the Indomitable Lions squad.

The performances of the team have recently been very average, with the team lacking clearly in cohesion and fluidity on the ball.

It was very noticeable in the game against Switzerland in the first game of the world cup. The players looked jaded, and also lacked game sharpness to matchup to the Swiss.

Against Brazil, even highly rotated, coach Rigobert Song and his players will need a perfect game to take anything from the tie.

The defense will especially have to flawless, something which may seem like an uphill task, given that Cameroon’s two first choice center backs, Jean Charles Castelleto and Nicolas Nkoulou missed the final training today with suspected injuries.

In goal, Devis Epassy, who was not very convincing against Serbia is likely to start following André Onana’s ousting from the national team for disciplinary issues.

Nevertheless, Cameroonian would be hopeful that the Lions can draw inspiration from their 2017 AFCON campaign, where they shocked the entire continent and won the trophy with a highly depleted side.
