BREAKING: Aboubakar will participate normally in AFCON

By Tata Mbunwe

Indomitable Lions captain Vincent Aboubakar will participate normally in the 2023 African Cup of Nations after an MRI scan result revealed his recent injury was just a minor problem.

A release from the team physician Dr Fotso Gwanap Patrick has revealed that a thigh injury the forward sustained during a training session yesterday will not affect his AFCON participation.

“An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) conducted on January 13, 2024, at St. Joseph Moscati Catholic Hospital in Yamoussoukro revealed a slight grade 1 musculo-aponeurotic detachment, which is a minor injury not affecting the player’s participation in the competition,” Dr Fotso Gwanap wrote.

“As a result, Vincent Aboubakar continues his preparation under the supervision of the medical team, indicating a very soon return to the group,” he furthered.

The release also mentioned Aboubakar’s readiness to captain his teammates throughout their AFCON 2023 participation.

Vincent Aboubakar’s injury yesterday had kept fans worried about his fate at the competition, which kicks off today in Abidjan.

The Indomitable Lions will play their first game of the tournament against Guinea on Monday, January, 15.

Many Indomitable Lions fans are now relieved that the AFCON 2021 golden boot winner will not be left out.

Apart from being the team captain, Vincent Aboubakar is arguably the most experienced member of the team.

The Besikitas forward has bailed the team out of several potential defeats with his goal scoring prowess.
