A shop owner has been rushed to a health facility in Nkwen Bamenda after he was shot at the entrance to Ghana Street in the restive town of Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon.

The Business man who deals in soft and cane drinks amongst and other goods was shot at about 8:00pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

A witnesses told MMI that: “armed men stormed his shop and were about taking him away. He resisted and was shot.”

“This was a typical case of kidnapping for ransom, but the gunmen did not succeed, the victim’s condition is very critical,” added our source.

It is unclear who is behind the shooting, but Separatists fighting for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’ have been kidnapping locals for ransom.

He was rushed to a health facility in Nkwen for medical attention — where medical officials are attending to him.

The victim’s identify is not yet known.
