Buea Council Staff Crave For Salary Increase, Payment of Arrears

Staff of the Buea Council have highlighted increment in their pay package, payment of arrears owed them, and continues capacity building opportunities, as prerequisite for the increase in output at their various areas of work.
They were speaking to hierarchy through their staff Delegate, during a ceremony to extend New Year Wishes to the Mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge. The occasion took place at the premises of the Buea Council, Thursday April 18, 2019.

According to the staff, though the council has made some strides in fulfilling some its obligations with relations to staff welfare, it is however incumbent for management to motivate the staff by fulfilling the most pressing needs which are the payment of their salary arears, and to meet up with the minimum salary payment as stipulated by law.
“We came up with a Gentleman agreement with the Mayor, to continue working while the council source for other means of generating income so our salaries could be paid up-to-date. We understanding that due to the armed conflict in the municipality, majority of the revenue generating activities of the municipality have been affected. However, we are pleading with the council that it is becoming prolonged. We cannot meet with are daily costs, due to no wage. We plead with council authority to do something to its staff,” a council staff told Mimi Mefo Info, pleading for anonymity.

Though the council has always postulated that its salary payment is up-to-date, many staff have however refuted such allusions, indicating that there’s a lot of coverup and politics attached to such claims.

However, it was a jubilant and cooperative staff member who thronged the Buea council premises to wish their Mayor, a Happy New Year 2019. The occasion also witnessed the handing over of a recently won award to the Mayor of Buea. The Guardian Post newspaper had awarded Mayor Ekema Patrick as the ‘Man of the Year.’
