Buea ex-Amba riots: Navy Captain Guemo Atonfack praises Biya’s prompt intervention

Like almost all positive deeds in the country have tended to be accorded to the perfect guidance of the Head of State by his subordinates, so too was the mitigation of possible violence by disgruntled ex-separatist fighters in Buea when they rose in protest against unfair treatment at the DDR Camps.

In a statement made by the Head of the Communication Division for the Ministry of Defence, he praised the professionalism and attitude of the defence forces in dealing with crowd protests in the Anglophone regions and especially the ex-separatist riots in Buea.

Navy Captain Cyrille Serge Atonfack mentioned that “… In addition to adding flesh to the concept of Democratic crowd control, the outstanding professional attitude of the forces of law and order during the protest of secessionist ex-combatants in the process of reinsertion highlights the constant will of the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E Paul Biya to see that those among the children of Cameroon who are fleeting lost to the siren song of new slavery regain their rightful place within the national community”.

This recent riot by these ex-fighters in Buea is another indication of unsettlement within the ranks of the DDR. There have been several complains from repentant separatist fighters on the kind of treatment they are being given at these DDR Camps. Some of them have openly criticised the Government for having manipulated them to dropping their weapons as they say their process of reintegration into the society has been very neglected. One of the most prominent ex-separatist I’m the name of General Nambere even openly said on TV that he regretted dropping his arms to turn to the government.
