Buea: Limbe Quarter weeps over D.O.’s failed 48-hour electricity restoration promise

Residents of Limbe Quarter in Buea, South West region say government has failed to deliver on a promise it made to them.

Weeks back, they had protested against frequent powercuts, receiving a promise from the Divisional Officer that the issue will be resolved.

A local says, “the D.O. received the population very well and asked them why they had come to his office. After all the explanation from the population, they were given assurance that their electricity will be restored within 48 hours.”

Weeks after the promise, the situation is said to be deteriorating. “… It will shock you if I tell you that since that day, our predicament has changed from worse to worst,” grumbles a resident in the area.

He adds that “we now go for seven days or more without electricity.”

This has made life hard for most residents who are students and need the electricity to facilitate studies. It is feared that the lack of constant power supply will play down on their grades as evaluation begins soon.

“The most irritating thing,” the resident adds, “is that despite the blackout, the ENEO agents still issue electricity bills to us … Please come to our aid.”

Several other areas of Buea, it should be noted, have also raised similar concerns of frequent powercuts these past weeks, leaving many doubts over the performance of the electricity distribution company, ENEO.
