Mass Arrests Precede Screening Of Biya’s Documentary Film

The police and gendarmes conducted mass arrests in several neighborhoods in Buea on Wednesday and this Thursday morning prior to the screening of a documentary film on President Paul Biya‘s leadership.

The event takes place at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium this Thursday afternoon.

Hours to the event, which unfolds amid a separatist lockdown, security officers went on the offensive, ramping up dozens of young people in Molyko, Mile 17, Bomaka, Sandpit and other neighborhoods.

Sources say indiscriminate arrests were carried out from people’s homes and the streets by a mixed element of defence and security forces.

Most of those arrested spent the night at the Muea and Molyko Police stations.

Some special cases were reportedly transferred to the gendarmerie legion office, and the central police station.

Thousands are expected to throng the Molyko Omnisports Stadium at 4 pm this Thursday, September 19, to watch a film titled, “Paul Biya: The Great Statements.”

It is a documentary projecting the 41-year reign of Paul Biya at the helm of Cameroon, affirming him as a great man.

Amongst the spectators will be elites from Yaounde and other parts of the country.

Prior to the event, South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, assured the public of full security before during and after the event. This accounts for the arrests.
