Buea Mayor storms streets, seizes several motorbikes to reinforce ban

Buea Council workers, led by Mayor David Mafani Namange, have stormed streets and neighbourhoods in Buea seizing motorbikes.

Several private bikes seized this afternoon were loaded onboard a Council pickup and taken to the Council building.

They are reinforcing a bike ban that was instituted by the former Mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick Esunge, in 2018.

Dozens of bikes confiscated by the Council several years back are still packed behind the Council building at Clerks Quarters, Buea.

Ekema Patrick, a controversial Mayor who died in 2019, banned bikes in Buea as one of the measures to fight against separatist incursions.

Five years after it was instituted, the measure has however failed to stop Ambazonia separatists from sneaking into the “Town of Legendary Hospitality” to launch attacks.
