Buea: One die as massive flood wreak havoc

Many are still in shock in Buea, in the South West Region following an unforseen flood which has caused a lot of material damage in the town, and killing a little girl too.

The inundations were a result of a heavy downpour which hit the “town of legendary hospitality” on the afternoon of Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Several houses and shops were completely invaded by mud and water, while others completely collapsed from the pressure of the water.

The sole victim of the inundation is revealed to being a young girl, who was a pupil of class six. She was reportedly swept away by the water from the Bonalyonga neighborhood right to Babouti street where her corpse was later found and retrieved.

Others victims of the catastrophe have been rushed to nearby medical facilities and are responding to treatment.

The Lord Mayor of the Buea Council, and other dignitaries have made brief visits to the scene to examine the damages caused.

While at the scene, Mayor David Mafany Namange lauded the efforts of the inhabitants and also that of the South West Development Authority (SOWEDA) their prompt interventions to see that things returned to order.
