Buea: Several persons wounded as separatist fighters storm Muea

An unspecified number of persons have sustained injuries following an attack on yesterday night by separatist fighters in Muea, a village in Buea, Headquarters of Cameroon’s South West Region.

Sources say the separatists attacked a military control post at Liongo leading to a gun exchange that lasted for over an hour.

“It’s been long since we heard such heavy sounds…for over an hour,” a Muea resident told MMI.

He added that several persons, including a taxi driver by name Mbella, were caught by bullets, some of them sustaining severe injuries.

“He was heading towards the Muea Health Center, just at the junction. The ‘boyses’ stopped him. He then made a U-turn back towards Ekona when one of them blocked again and began shooting at his vehicle,” our source narrated.

The injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

MMI is, however, yet to obtain the exact number of those injured in the attack.

Normal life resumed in Muea on Tuesday morning despite the Monday night attack.
