Buea: Taxi Driver shot dead at University of Buea Entrance

A driver whose name MMI got as Ngonangeh Gaston has been shot death at the entrance of the University of Buea, South West Region of Cameroon.

Sources residing in the neighborhood have it that they heard sounds of gunshots coming from the site where his body was found, on the evening of Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

“When we rushed to the scene, we realized a young man lying dead, we cannot tell who his killerz are,” a source told MMI.

According to MMI findings, the driver was targeted by some associates.

Unconfirmed reports say he had dealings with scammers and was killed in attempt to defraud huge sums of money.

“He was a middle man receiving money for scammers. So he received someone’s money, about 15million, and refused to pay back. That’s probably why he was shot,” another source told MMI.

The taxi driver who was residing in Mile 16, Buea was reportedly on duty when he was killed.

His car was taken away by the assailants.

Speaking to MMI, a taxi driver who is member of the Buea Taxi Drivers’ Union said they have reached out to authorities for answers. “We think soldier killed our colleague, and we want to also know where his car has been taken to and who took it away,” said our source.

Killings have become rampant in Camerooon, especially in crisis-hit regions where security has deteriorated in the past few years.
