Buea:
Business operators say sealing business premises is counterproductive to CHAN competition

The Divisional Officer for Buea in the South West region has embarked on sealing business premises.

Those targeted are business people believed to have been operating after 6PM, contrary to an order made earlier.

Likely in conformity with security measures, authorities had asked business operators to shut down their premises by 6PM throughout the period of the African Football Championship, CHAN.

Just a day into the order, the operators are already finding the decision faulty.

Given that many had seen the competition as a period to make the most out of their businesses, they say the DO’s action is having an adverse effect on not only their work, but also in the town’s image.

“What image are we showing foreigners?” Questions a business operator who adds “… What about matches that will be played at 6PM? If I am to go to Limbe and watch the match and I am resident in Muea, how will I reached my home?”

With the South West region to host group D games of the competition, government has had to deploy extra security to fend off separatists’ threats.

Surprisingly, it comes against a backdrop of government officials claims that the troubled North West and South West regions are returning to their former peaceful state.
