Camair-co’s planned flight resumption flops

Camairco’s desire to resume flights today following 8 months of inactivity has failed.

The state-owned carrier which had been grounded for over 8 months announced that it was going to resume activities today with domestic flights.

According to the corporation, 42 weekly flights were scheduled for Yaounde, Douala, Garoua and Maroua. The Bafoussam, Bamenda Ngoundere routes were to remain inactive for the mean time.

No flights will however be launched. In a press release at the last minute, Camairco instead asked customers to visit its different points of sale.

Camair-co had specified that the Douala-Yaounde routes will receive 7 weekly flights. It also announced a Boeing- 737, leased to help kick off its activities.

In a year which has been largely turbulent for the airline carrier, Camair-co following it’s series of turbulent management and serial losses incurred, the president of the Republic opted on the privatization of the only state owned airline company.

Before it’s privatization, the airline, throughout its existence as a state corporation, had actually never made profits and struggled immensely under the weight of its enormous debts.

To top it all up, most of its planes were often grounded. With poor planes often regarded as one of the weak points of Camair-co, the acquisition of the Boeing-737 was hoped to be a springboard to an upturn in the fortunes of the cooperation.
