Cameron President-Elect, Paul Biya, Takes Oath Of Office Today, Public Holiday Declared

The new-old President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya, shall fully assume his 7 years mandate this Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

The ceremony scheduled for the hemicycle of the National Assembly in Yaoundé, will be chaired by the Assemby President, Hon Cavaye Yegue Djibril, in the presence of the President’s of the Senate, Constitutional Council, and other top-notch national and international officials.

The solemn ceremony falls inline with Article 7, subparagraph 1 and 2, of the Constitution, stipulating the activities that will characterise the swearing in of a new President.
“The President-elect shall assume office once he has been sworn in. He shall take the oath of office before the Cameroonian people, in the presence of the members of Parliament, the Constitutional council and the Supreme Court meeting in solemn session. He shall be sworn in by the President of the National Assembly. The wording of the oath and the procedure for implementing the provisions of paragraphs (1) and (2) above shall be laid down by law,” the constitution reads.

Meanwhile, today has been declared a Public Holiday, across the national territory of Cameroon.

The decision signed by President Paul Biya, aims at giving Cameroonians ample time to follow the swearing in ceremony.

President Paul Biya, to officially take over his 7th mandate as President of Cameroon, is expected to be in power until 2025.

Today will be observed as a public holiday nationwide following a decree signed by President-elect Biya yesterday.
