Cameroon: 493 ghost workers dismissed from public service

Four hundred and ninety-three (493) civil servants have been dismissed from Cameroon’s public service.

The revelation is contained in a decision from the ministry of public service and administrative reforms signed May 21, 2021. The decision comes after a physical head count of civil servants.

Those dismissed have been found guilty of abandoning their duty posts while still harvesting from the state treasury.

To the ministry of public service and administrative reform, those dismissed either failed to adequately justify their months and years of absences from their duty posts in front of the disciplinary Council of the ministry or totally failed to answer to a call to justify their absences.

Experts involved in fishing of ghost Workers in Cameroon’s public service say some of those who abandon their duty posts do so in complicity with their hierarchy aimed at extorting money from the state without work done.

While others celebrate the dismissal as a warning signal for those who abandon work, some critics think Cameroon’s public service is designed in such a way that absences are tolerated with no objective of work set.
