Cameroon: Anglophone Family Decries Exorbitant Sum Requested to Release Detained Father

70 year old Tita Tambi, a nightwatch in Babessi, North West Region of Cameroon has been detained for almost a week today.

Arrested on May 15th during a raid, he was retained after everyone else was freed.

Sources say the forces of law and order asked for 50,000 FCFA to secure his release.
“His children contributed and went with the money but they changed from 50,000 FCFA to 1,000,000 FCFA” says the source.

In addition to illegal arrests and detention, Cameroon soldiers have been accused of carrying out extra judicial killings in the crisis hit North West and South West Regions.
