Cameroon: Anglophone Family Seeks Divine Justice for Mother Allegedly Raped by Soldiers

An over sixty year old woman reportedly raped by Cameroonian soldiers in the locality of Bafut- North West Region is battling for survival.

“She still feels enormous pains in her private part and can’t walk at the moment ” the daughter of the victim told Mimi Mefo Info on phone Saturday May 9th 2020.

One of the daughters (names withheld) taking care of the woman insists that two soldiers raped her mother in Mankwi village in Bafut as military men from the 5th military legion in Bamenda invaded the community in search of separatist fighters.

Questioned about the demand of the family following strong accusations on the military, the grandson says “we don’t have anything to demand neither from the government nor the military in Cameroon because this is not the first time a similar incident has happened in the North west. We leave everything in the hands of God to render justice. How can an old woman of over sixty years be raped by the military?”.

“We have not received any help from authorities to treat our mother. No visit from either the military or administration” the daughter attests.

Military officials at the 5th military legion in Bamenda insist that soldiers who invaded Bafut targeted just the separatists and not civilians.
