Seven senior officers of the Cameroon military officially joined the rank of General officers on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in a ceremony at the Headquarters Brigade in Yaounde.
The event was presided over by the Minister of Defence Joseph Beti Assomo, on behalf of President Paul Biya, the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and marked the formal presentation of their new insignia.
Promoted by presidential decree on July 15, 2025, the newly decorated officers include Brigadier Generals Raymond Boum Bissoue, Tobie Gabriel Ngolo Ngomba, François Pelene, Alexandre Fernand Mveh, Robert Sadjo, Guy Merlin Chembou Zambou, and Rear Admiral Hilary Ade Nkwenti.
Their elevation reflects years of service, dedication, and loyalty to the nation.
Earlier in the day, eight other Generals received new ranks. There included Elokobi Daniel Njock, Mahamat Ahmed, and Hippolyte Ebaka promoted to Major General, while Jean Calvin Momha and Emmanuel Amougou became Air Division Generals. Joseph Fouda, Jean Mendoua, and Pierre Njine Njonkam were elevated to Vice Admiral.
The ceremony also featured key changes in military leadership. Major General Saly Mohamadou assumed duties as Chief of Staff of the Army, succeeding Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka.
Brigadier General Benoît Bede Eba Eba took over as Chief of Staff of the Air Force, replacing Air Division General Jean Calvin Momha.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Beti Assomo commended the officers for their “remarkable commitment to the defence and stability of Cameroon” and urged them to “carry their new responsibilities with honour, discipline, and a renewed spirit of service.”
The promotions come at a time when the Cameroonian Armed Forces continue to address security challenges across the country, including the fight against terrorism in the Far North, piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, and ongoing unrest in the North West and South West regions.
