Cameroon celebrities under the radar as fans tear into them for ignoring the Anglophone crisis

It all began when the government announced the implementation of the phone tax law in Cameroon. Like in every normal case, it met with stiff reactions from the Cameroonian youths, more so from the celebrities in Cameroon.

The mobilization was massive and widespread. It somehow forced the government’s hand to redress it’s step, thereby ordering the suspension of the tax by the president of the Republic.
Cameroonians got the more frustrated when the #ENDSARS Crisis broke in Nigeria.

The support from Nigerian celebrities both on Social Media as well as leading protesters in Physical protests was unimaginable.

The activities on ground like on Social Media was spontaneous and massive. It got the whole world talking in less than 24 hours. The politicians too have spoken out against the activities of the SARS and demanded for it’s abolition.

It even got some Cameroonian high profile individuals to react to the happenings in Nigerian more than they have in Cameroon.

Back in the country, Cameroonian celebrities, some Cameroonian sought for the heads of Cameroonian celebrities. Many have blasted Cameroon icons calling them cowards and egocentric. While some celebrities show how clueless they could be, many simply react because of the public pressure set by the lesser ones.

Music star “Magasco” on seeing the attention the SARS crisis in Nigeria had generated, took to his Instagram account and wrote what many thing made him look clueless. “I just wish we have/had the same platform as Nigeria… so it simply means no one cares about us…” he wrote.

A random follower wrote commented on the post saying they celebrities were the ones who are responsible for making the voices of Cameroonians heard.

“ This coming from you as a public figure… when have you celebs organised a peaceful protest or taken to the street in solidarity for the bleeding Cameroonians…” he wrote.

Blanche Bailey meanwhile also revealed in a post that she was speaking out because the fans would want them to speak out.

“I understand that you are my fans and that you demand of me to speak out on issues concerning the country, thank you for this confidence”.

While many are simply raging with the reactions of the celebrities as to the anglophone crises, others are defiant and say the state of the country by far does not permit neutrals to freely air their minds.

One twitter user wrote “so you all want the celebrities to risk defying the powers of Etoudi? Sorry but I stand with them. Ask Longué Longué how it feels. I rest my case.”
