Cameroon Child Abuse Response Ranked Among Worst In The World

By MK

Amidst a rising number of conflicts within the Republic of Cameroon, it has now been listed among the three countries with the worst child abuse response records in the world.

This is according to research carried out by the “Out of the Shadows Index,” a global initiative geared toward responding to child abuse cases in all their forms globally.

The study classified Cameroon alongside Niger, and Uzbekistan as the worst places in the world for children victims of sexual abuse. The assessment further solidifies claims earlier made about the disturbing child abuse record within the country.

In 2019, The Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) sounded an alarm on the various types of abuse on children in Cameroon, especially those living with disabilities. The CBC revealed that at least 50% of children in Cameroon have experienced some form of abuse, many of whom are living with disabilities.

Currently battling several armed conflicts across the national territory, NGOs like the Child Protection Inter-Agency Referral Pathway For Child Protection cases have opined that children in humanitarian settings are equally more likely to witness more physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.
