Cameroon Daily Dose – July 26th, 2021

President Paul Biya is yet to return home over 24 hours after his return was announced by his party songbirds. State officials have been mute over the failed announcement, despite rising rumours by some news sources that all may not be well with the President’s health.

Quebec has pledged to broaden cooperation ties with Cameroon. Its Director General for Africa, Iya Toure today met with Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Ministers of External Relations and Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.


The City Mayor of Douala has warned against the destruction of traffic lights and theft of the control machines for street lights. According to a statement issued by authorities, 15 out of the 34 traffic lights installed across major junctions in the city are no longer operational.



Cameroon’s Minister of Defense has instructed that security should be reinforced in the country’s Far North Region. The decision comes after an attack launched by Boko Haram — which led to the death of 8 Cameroonian soldiers in the region.



A woman has been arrested in Douala for duping kid hawkers with counterfeit money. The woman had allegedly made a habit of using fake 10,000 FCFA notes to buy from the naive children who in turn give her original notes.


Defense Minister Beti Assomo has ended a working visit to the West region where had been sent to assess the security situation. He has promised to reinforce security in the region with more troops following recent attacks from separatist fighters from the North West Region on some police posts.
