Cameroon disappoints CAF on hosting African Football league finals

Cameroon has turned down an offer to host the semi final and final of African Football league in the month of September 2020.

In a press conference Monday July 13th 2020 in Yaounde, the President of Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Seidou Mbombo Njoya said this is due to the ravaging effects of coronavirus pandemic.

He says FECAFOOT has written to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) explaining that the matches will not attract enough visibility.

Despite the official reason for rejecting to host the matches at the newly constructed Japoma stadium in Douala, some critics say what FECAFOOT has not had the courage to declare publicly is that Cameroon is not in support of the fact that matches should take place in the stadium that has not been inaugurated officially by authorities .

The decision of Cameroon has raised fears of a possible negative reaction from CAF towards Cameroon.

Note that Cameroon is to host African football Championship (CHAN) in January 2021 and African Cup of Nations in January 2022.
