Cameroon ex-defense minister, Mebe Ngo’o bursts into tears at corruption hearing

The court hearing of the case against Cameroon’s former defense minister and one time Police boss, Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o has been adjourned to February 18, 2020.

This was after yesterday’s hearing at the Special Criminal Tribunal in the nation’s capital, Yaounde.

Reports say the former police chief appeared in court alongside his co-defendants Mbangué Maxime, Mboutou Elie Ghislain, Menye Victor Emmanuel, and his ex-wife Minla Nkoulou.

All five face charges of diverting public funds, corruption and others.

Mebe Ngo’o is reported to have burst into tears in the courtroom as he spoke about the charges labelled against him.

The former Senior Divisional Officer for Mfoundi said he had nothing to do with the charges against him.

He is one of several government ministers who have found themselves behind bars after serving the regime of president Paul Biya.

Before his arrest and detention at the dreaded Kondengui prison, Mebe Ngo’o was sacked from Biya’s government where he served from 2015 to 2017 as transport minister, after spending the six previous years as Delegate General for National Security and later as Minister of Defense.
