Cameroon: Fake Rapid Intervention Battalion soldier arrested in Douala

By Amina Hilda

A man falsely claiming to be of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) has been arrested in Douala, Littoral Region of Cameroon.

In a video taken at a location in Douala, the young man could be seen being interrogated by gendarmerie officers on the sources of his outfit.

“I didn’t take them from anywhere,” replied the fake soldier when asked to reveal where he got the BIR equipment from.

According to the gendarmerie officers, the young man was caught with a complete BIR equipment set among which were a BIR watch, a BIR motorcycle, and a BIR gun.

All attempts by gendarmes to make the fraud reveal the source of the equipment and the reasons for his actions in the video proved futile as he kept beating about the bush, failing to provide a concrete response.

Cases of fake military and police officers have been on the increase in Cameroon.
