Cameroon: Fatal accident kills several persons heading for funeral.

A shocking road accident has once again been recorded along the Douala-highway, between a mini-bus and a heavy-duty truck.

The accident happened at Edea, in the Littoral region today May 26, 2023, as the passenger left Douala, headed for Eseka, in the Nyong et Kelle Division, Cameroon’s Centre Region for a funeral ceremony.

The bus had over 19 passengers, all believed to be from the same family, and the corpse. The HiAce marked bus unfortunately came into a head-on collision with a heavy-duty truck around Edea, killing almost half of the bus occupants.

“The bus was carrying a body and a bereaved family. Family members were 19 in total on the Hiace bus. Most of the family members died in the traffic accident,” a witness told MMI.

Contacted on telephone, the authorities of the city of Edea say they have “gathered extensive information on the tragedy,” adding that “the bodies and the wounded have been taken to the regional hospital of Edéa thanks to the emergency medical aid services, (SAMU).”

We however cannot confirm any official figure of the casualties. This latest accident adds the other very recent one involving a Touristique Transport bus that killed 15 passengers.
