Cameroon: Five die in fatal accident

A ghastly road accident on the Ebebda road in Cameroon’s Centre Region has claimed the lives of at least 5 people.

The accident occurred on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

The accident involving a public transport bus belonging to a travel agency and a private car – both moving at top speed occurred following a head-on collision. The impact of the collision was so great that both vehicles were completely destroyed.

Five people have died from the accident with several others severely injured. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that excessive speed may have been a major cause.

“…it is believed that excessive speed may have been a factor. Both cars were at high speed, especially the public transport bus which in trying to overtake the bus ran into the private car,” said an eyewitness.

“So far, 5 people have passed away with many others injured. They have been rushed to nearby hospitals, but judging from the severity of their injuries, I am afraid many might not survive” our source added.

This is the latest in a series of road accidents on Cameroonian roads. Accidents have been on the rise with hundreds of people said to have died in the past year according to statistics.
