Cameroon: Fragile Peace, Absence of Core Values – Nico Halle

“Peace in Cameroon today is fragile, it’s distorted and has been compromised.”

That is the description of peace in Cameroon according to venerated peace crusader, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle.

The international peace crusader laments over the fact that peace has been ‘flushed into the toilet’ by the absence of love, justice, equity, accountability, credibility, respect of human rights, absence of the truth and above all the absence of the fear of God.

The international lawyer ascertained that core values responsible for implanting and maintaining peace in any community are absent in Cameroon today, reason why killings, kidnappings, and anarchy have been the order of the day, most especially in the two anglophone regions of Cameroon.

In an exclusive interview with Mimi Mefo Info during activities to mark International Day of Peace on Friday September 21 2018, the peace crusader regretted that egoistic interests have overshadowed the general good in Cameroon with the common man or Cameroonian left alone to suffer the pinch of anarchy caused by people that do not have the love for fatherland.

On the question of why the national commission for the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism is ineffective, Barrister Nico Halle says, “…if the national commission for the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism must mean anything, it should be made executive and empowered.”

To the devout Christian and elections observer, the commission in its status of a consultative body that listens to the worries of Cameroonians, writes reports and presents to the President of the Republic, lacks powers to take independent actions that can work in the interest of the people.

The member of the commission points that an effective practice of bilingualism and multiculturalism in Cameroon without the practice of core values of justice, love, equity, respect for human rights, patriotism and the fear of the Lord will not help Cameroon. He quotes that many Cameroonians are bilingual but use the talent and skill to corrupt others.

Though Ntumfor Nico Halle appreciates efforts made by religious bodies in Cameroon for peace, he frankly thinks the Church and Muslim faithfuls have to do more.

“If the Christians and Muslims will live up to expectation by preaching what they practice and practicing what they preach. Then Cameroon will be a better society to live in.”
