Cameroon: Gendarme officer dead, two injured, and one missing in fresh Boko Haram attack

The Boko Haram sect has once again targeted the Ashigasha locality, situated in the Mayo Sava Division, of the volatile Far North Region of Cameroon.

The militants’ objective was to attack and overpower the defense forces in order to effectively engage in combat with the civilian population.

A large contingent of individuals arrived at the scene shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 29th, 2023, armed to the teeth.

The jihadists then launched an assault on the locality, specifically targeting the Ashigasha gendarmerie unit.

The military retaliated but was overpowered.

Members of the extremist group killed an officer in training who graduated in 2022.

Two persons were injured; another student gendarme and a senior gendarme officer.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by this militant organization. In a recent development, it has been reported that one of the student policemen involved in the incident remains unconscious, while another student policeman is currently missing.

“Another officer is missing, we are unsure what happened to him,” a source in the Far North Region told MMI.

After a night of unrest, tranquility was restored in the early hours of Sunday. However, an undercurrent of fear continues to grip the general population,

In light of the escalating threats posed by the Boko Haram sect, there is an urgent call to bolster the ranks of the Ashigasha post, which has been increasingly targeted by these militants due to its limited manpower.
