Cameroonian born junior Periclex, Ngaja has secured a medal for Cameroon at the ongoing commonwealth games.
The 29-year-old weightlifter won the +100 kg category, as he lifted 160kg in the snatch before rising to a further 201kg in the clean and jerk to beat silver medalist Jack Hitila Opeloge by three kilograms.
“That was the first gold medal for Cameroon in Birmingham, in any sport, the first medal of any color,” Ngadja told the press.
“It’s big, very big, for me, for my family. I was crying because it was too much for me, too much to take in. I am very happy, ” he added.
The commonwealth games are currently ongoing in Birmingham.
