Cameroon government announces imminent COVID-19 vaccination, rekindles preventive measures

Modalities are on the way for the start of COVID 19 vaccination in Cameroon. This was announced by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute.

In an official declaration read over the state radio Friday March 5th 2021, the head of government says “the process to get the vaccination is under way. The vaccination against COVID 19 will be voluntary but government is encouraging all Cameroonians to take the vaccine and stop the spread of coronavirus”.

While Cameroonians await availability of the vaccine, the head of government says all COVID-19 prevention measures outlined to Cameroonains on the 17th of March 2020 have been reactivated.

“This includes compulsory wearing of face mask in all public places, washing of hands, physical distancing, use of hydro alcoholic gels and no gathering of more than 50 people in a particular area”.

Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute adds that all public transport cars and buses should equally respect physical distancing.

At all entry points in Cameroon, obligatory COVID-19 tests will be imposed for all those crossing the borders. In a related development, the head of government has suspended all travels out of the country by members of government while encouraging the use of video conferences to hold meetings.

Government laments that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in Cameroon because of total disrespect of preventive measures.

One year after the first COVID-19 case was announced in Cameroon on the 6th of March 2020, 588 deads have been recorded with thirty eight thousands nine hundred and eighty eight people that have been tested positive.
