Cameroon: Health Minister calls for caution, trust in COVID-19 vaccine

Cameroon will in the days ahead receive its first installment of the COVID-19 vaccine from China.

Health Minister, Dr. Manaouda Malachie has called on Cameroonians to remain receptive to the pending COVID-19 voluntary vaccination.

“With the growing anti-vaccine debate, the proper question to ask, given the state-of-the-art knowledge about the Covid vaccine, is: Does the vaccine increase the chances of avoiding severe illness and death? The WHO says YES!” Dr. Manaouda tweeted.

“For this reason,” he added, “I am going to take the vaccine…”.

To the vaccine against COVID-19, I am committed. What about you?” He wrote in a subsequent tweet.

The minister’s messages come at a time many Cameroonians are raising worries about the safety of the said vaccine.

Following an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the government announced that it was once more tightening preventive measures. Among others, authorities have recommended mass testing on all levels.
