Cameroon’s Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie fears there could be a second coronavirus wave in the country if strong action is not taken to combat the pandemic.
“We are entering a sensitive and delicate phase of our COVID contingency plan, made up of a drop in contamination but a risk of a second wave if we relax our efforts,” said Mr Malachie on Twitter Saturday.
While updating Cameroonians on Covid-19 statistics in the country, the Public Health Minister, revealed that Cameroon now has 18,118 confirmed cases. “Among these cases are 1,177 active cases, 16,540 recoveries and a record of 401 deaths,” added Minister Malachie.
The Minister equally affirmed that 128 Covid-19 patients are currently being hospitalized.
Cameroon which is currently one of the hardest-hit in terms of Covid-19 infection in Central Africa recorded its first case early March 2020.
Experts have attributed the growing figures to non-respect of lockdown restrictions.
“It is more than ever necessary to reinforce the respect of the barrier measures and the wearing of face masks,” Minister Malachie cautioned.
