Cameroon: Konye Women storm streets in search of lady, nurse for committing abortion

Some women and young girls in Wone, a local community in Konye, Meme division of the South West region of Cameroon have taken to the streets in a hunt against a lady who is said to have committed an abortion.

They stormed the streets Saturday, April 15, 2023, chanting local songs to the rhythm of some local instruments.

The nurse suspected to have assisted in the abortion is also hunted.

“This is Wone village. The women you see are moving around the whole village searching for a woman who aborted a four-month-old pregnancy,” a voice said in amateur footage showing the women on the street.

Abortion MMI gathered is considered an intolerable act in Wone.

“It is an abomination. The women do not tolerate it,” he said adding, “They are searching for the woman and the nurse who did that”

At the time of this report, MMI was unable to get the identities of the suspects.

The protesting women are still combing the village in the search.
