Some locals in Cameroon’s major cities, have expressed worries following the recent announcement of a hike in electricity costs by the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL).
The information is contained in a release signed by the company’s General Director in December 2022.
According to the release, medium voltage users will witness an increase from 50-95 FCFA between 11 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 50-125frs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
A consumer expressed her worry about the hike in electricity costs, and told CNA that: “The increase today targets companies but in a long run, it will extend to us… Companies will pay more kilowatts and put the cost on products thereby increasing prices of goods.”
The cost of electricity is just one among the numerous goods and services which have witnessed skyrocketing increases in prices recently.
