Cameroon News Roundup – April 26th, 2022

Separatist fighters continue to lose ground in the Anglophone regions as locals express their frustrations. Reports say a separatist ‘General’, his wife and a dozen other fighters were killed by the forces of law and order. They were killed in coordinated raids in Batibo, Ndu and Mbonge subdivisions of the North West and South West regions.


The Ministry of Finance has kicked off activities in the build up to Labour Day (May 1st). The ministry started with free health screening for its staff, followed by advice on nutritional habits. Other sensitisation activities are set for the days ahead.



Barrister Ndong Christopher of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party has declared his intentions to run for bureau position at the Bar Council. The 53-year-old said he is willing to display his expertise and dynamism in the drive for change in the institution. Many have however questioned why he chose not to run for position of Bar president.


A bike rider cheated death on the second bridge over the Wouri River in Douala today, after running into a truck. The truck had experienced a breakdown and was parked on the bridge, when the rider ran into it. He sustained injures but was rushed to hospital in record time to save his life.


Multiple Cameroonian families are living in uncertainty, following news of the death of at least 30 of their countrymen headed for Europe. Reports say they embarked on the perilous journey from Tunisia, but only three made it. The identities of the deceased are yet to be made out.


The circulation of commercial motorbikes in the Diamarrre Division, Far North region has been limited to daylight hours. Announcing the decision, the SDO, Jean Marc Ekoa Mbarga said it was part of measures to fight insecurity which has been on the rise for a while now.


Victoria United football club has suspended its supporters union citing “unacceptable conduct and offensive language” from fans to the President. The suspension, the club’s President, Nkwain Valentine said, is meant to restore serenity and enhance effective collaboration between management and the supporters’ club. He also called out the coaching staff for what he termed gross insubordination.
