Cameroon Oncology Centre celebrates 2 years of advanced Radiotherapy in Central African region

Being Cameroon’s first Medical Linear Accelerator, the Cameroon Oncology Centre, COC has treated more than 300 cancer patients from Cameroon and other countries of the CEMAC zone, as well as from Nigeria and Congo-Zaire.

The Cameroon Oncology Centre has an authorization to treat Cancer by the Ministry of Public Health and National Radiation Agency.

It offers state of the art radiotherapy with a ready team of knowledgeable experts and scientists. The radiation treatment regimens include 3D conformal radiation therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Dynamic Arc Therapy.

COC is equally only one of 4 cancer centers in Africa that have met the stringent standards set by the United States Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).

It is also the only cancer treatment center in Africa approved to participate in International Atomic Energy Agency Radiation Therapy protocol for treatment of bulky tumours anywhere in the body.

With the high standards and quality of treatment rendered by COC, there is absolutely no reasons paying for expensive flights out of the country when everything can be done within the country at the same costs like abroad.

The Medical Linear Accelerator owned by the COC remains one of the most expensive medical equipment in the world, valued at several Millions of Dollars. The computerized medical linear accelerator is miles ahead of the Co-60 radiotherapy based technology developed in 1960. It represents Cameroon paradigm shift in the fight against cancer.

It provides upto date medical for over 70 patients on a daily basis using electrons and photons.

COC is located in Bekoko, the outskirts of Douala and is headed by its founder and CEO Process Paul Mobit and a host of Oncologists, and medical physicist, scientists amongst others.

The Cameroon Oncology Center also recently acquired a state of the art tumor marker analyzer. Tests would soon be made available to the public in a few weeks.
