Cameroon: Over 55 Boko Haram fighters drop arms

According the National Station, CRTV, some 55 ex-combatants of the deadly Boko Haram Terrorist group have surrendered their weapons.

State media reported that they were on transit to the centre run by the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission in Meri, Diamaré Division as of April 07, 2021.

The surrendered fighters include some 32 child fighters, 11 women and 12 men.

Speaking to the CRTV the fighters expressed remorse by saying that they regretted every attrocity they ever committed and are grateful to God and to the Cameroonian Government for forgiveness and a chance at redemption.

According to the Head of the DDR centre for Meri, Oumar Bichair, the Demobilization of these former fighters is as a result of a series of civil military action and operation on the ground, most especially by the Multinational Joint Force Task combatting Boko Haram terrorism.

This comes after a series of attacks by the sect on Cameroonian territory over the past weeks.
