Blackout Cameroon
The Far North and part of North Regions have gone without electricity for four days and counting.
This follows an incident on a transformer in Garoua, capital of the North Region — which is preventing the flow of electricity from Lagdo damn to Far North and some parts of North Region.
Locals are threatening to storm the streets if nothing is done to remedy the situation.
“After enjoying electricity for just more than four months, we have again gone back to the old days without light,” said a family head lamenting that, “This situation puts our lives and security in danger.”
Generators, torches and lamps businesses are reportedly booming in these regions as locals try to find a way out for themselve.
In a temporal measure, the electricity supply company ENEO, has installed a thermal plant to safe the situation.
The measure is however insufficient given that electricity is now rationed keeping several localities in darkness.
