Cameroon: Press under attack again

Ojong Joseph, a reporter with the Manyu Community Radio and The Advocate Newspaper has been arrested by the forces of law and order.

Arrested on Sunday in Mamfe, the Human Rights Reporter, is being held since Sunday on allegations of taking pictures of the house of a police officer, burnt down by separatist fighters on Friday.

Sources confirm the house was set ablaze early Friday while Ojong was in Limbe.

This year is definitely not a good one for journalists in Cameroon. This is yet another attack on the press after the murder of Samuel Wazizi in the hands of the military.

Colleagues are now worried about Ojong’s safety.

Close to 10 journalists are currently behind bars with some serving heavy jail sentences.
