Cameroon ranked 27th on world’s most corrupt nations index

According to the Corruption Perception Index published by Transparency International, Cameroon is placed 149 out of 180 countries that were considered for the ranking.

In essence, this means that Cameroon is the 27th most corrupt nation in the world for the year 2020.

With a score of 25/100, Cameroon lost some places to its previous rank of 153rd/180 in the year 2019.

On the continent, however, the country also is amongst the very corrupt, as it ranks 15th according to the Corruption Perception Index.

These figures are a clear indication of the inability of the state and other civil society organizations to fight and limit the high levels of Corruption in the country.

The inappropriate mismanagement of COVID-19 funds by some members of the state further exacerbated Cameroon’s chances of efficiently fighting growing levels of Corruption in the country.

Beyond this, the inability of the country to further combat growing violence in the Northwest and Southwest regions equally worked a great deal against Cameroon.

On a global level, New Zealand, as was the case last year, remains the country with the least corruption levels according to the Corruption Perception Index, while Denmark follows in second.

Meanwhile South Sudan and Somalia are considered the most corrupt nations in the world just like was the case in 2019, with an average score of 12/100.
