Cameroon records frightening COVID-19 figures

As of Friday March 12, 2021, there are five thousand two hundred and ninty one (5291) active COVID-19 cases in Cameroon.

The figures were presented at a coordination meeting chaired by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute Friday 12 March.

Among those tested positive are one thousand four hundred and eighty one health workers according to the minister of public health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie.

Members of government say six hundred and thirty three people have died of coronavirus pandemic since the virus was officially declared in Cameroon on the 6th of March 2020.

Government is therefore focusing now on how to impose stricter COVID-19 measures in the transport sector to limit contamination.

Earlier on, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, minister of transport threatened to suspend driving licences of those caught overloading people or goods. He equally talked of daily disinfection of travel agencies among others. These have not been a reality given the high cost as stated by workers of these agencies.

Meantime, plans are underway to get over 1 million seven hundred doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the near future.

Health workers, people above 50 years, members of government, lawmakers and expected to be among the first to take the vaccine.
