Cameroon: Remains of delegates killed by separatists in 2021 retrieved

The remains of five out of six government delegates who were kidnapped, killed, and buried by separatist fighters in 2021, have been retrieved.

The delegates were killed on June 15, 2021. Their assassination was orchestrated by a separatist commander known as 10 Kobo in Ndian Division, South West Region of Cameroon.

The delegates comprise the Divisional Delegate of State Property, Land Tenure, and Surveys, the Divisional Delegate of Housing and Urban Development, the Divisional Delegate of Water and Energy Resources, the Divisional Delegate of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Social Economy, and Handicraft, the Divisional Delegate of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development, and the Divisional Chief of Service for Surveys.

Recently, a 24-year-old ex-Ambazonia fighter by the name of Tamaya Clinton confessed to having taken part in the killing of the six delegates.

Tamaya said, “They assigned some men to dig graves, and they shot all of them one after the other.”

The young man later led a delegation of government forces to the burial site, where five corpses were successfully exhumed.

While addressing the press, Lieutenant Col. Nguele Joseph, Legion Commander-South West and leader of the delegation that retrieved the five corpses, indicated that the remains would be presented to their various families.

“The next step will be to bring the remains to town, in Buea and Limbe, so that the family can proceed with mourning ceremonies,” Lieutenant Col. Nguele Joseph said.

Nothing has, however, been said on the whereabouts of the remains of the sixth delegate.
