Cameroon Senate Candidate dies, less than two weeks to elections

A South West Regional candidate for upcoming senatorial election in Cameroon has been confirmed dead.

Rebecca Ankie Affiong from Isangele in the Bakassi peninsular died on Wednesday, March 1st, 2023, in Yaounde after “a protracted illness,” MMI has learned.

Senator Rebecca Ankie is an outgoing senator of the ruling CPDM Party whose name recently featured on the list of candidates nominated for the upcoming senate election in Cameroon.

The senatorial elections would hold on March 12, 2023.
