Corporal Ngono Jean Gaitan in service with the Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (BBR) decided to rob the shop of Mrs. Djoupo Tene Liliane in the Ndogpassi neighborhood in Douala with a military rifle.

Corporal Ngono Jean Gaitan, a 29-year-old soldier has been arrested for attempting to rob a Mobile Money kiosk in Douala, the capital city of the Littoral region.

The soldier in service with the Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (BBR) decided to rob the shop of Mrs. Djoupo Tene Liliane in the Ndogpassi neighborhood on Sunday, at about 10 am.

“He entered this commercial space, claiming he wanted to carry out a mobile money transaction. The soldier was armed with an M 21 S No. 12660 type rifle and loaded with 22 rounds of ammunition,” narrated an MMI correspondent in Douala.

While the victim prepared the cash, the soldier pointed his gun at her, ordering her to hand over the money.

“The lady quickly triggered her shop’s security alarm, alerting the neighborhood,” our reporter further revealed.

Once the alarm was raised, the soldier attempted to flee but was quickly caught up by the population.

Criminality within the forces of law and order has been on the rise in Cameroon, as recently, four police officers in training at the Mutengene Training and Enforcement Center were dismissed for drug use, manifest drunkenness, and repeated escalation.

An investigation has been opened by the Territorial Brigade of Bassa.
