Cameroon: Syndicate of Private Hospital Doctors to Protest Against Closure of Douala Clinic Today

The National Syndicate of Private doctors (SYNAMEC) government’s move to close down Marie O Polyclinic in Douala is not justified. To this end, the body has resolved to do what it takes to prevent the closure of the facility including a protest this morning.

“After having been built up on the various clinical cases and on the basis of the medical files which were presented to us, the office did not find any irregularity” Dr Philliple Ngandeu of SYNAMEC says.

The clinic was ordered to be shut down over irregular practices as it treats covid-19 patients. Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie gave orders yesterday to the SDO of the Wouri to ensure the closure.

However, the syndicate says “since no investigation has yet been carried out and our colleague has not had the opportunity to be heard by the institutions (ONMC and MINSANTE), we are surprised by the decision.”

To prevent the facility from being shut down at noon today as planned, the syndicate has called on its members to assemble at 11AM today at the clinic. Asking them to appear in their lab jackets, SYNAMEC says it is “to mark our disagreement for an arbitrary closure of a health facility.”

“This mobilization must be done in calm, respect for the institutions of the republic” Dr Philippe Ngandeu adds.

Marie O Polyclinic in Douala is one of other privately owned health facilities permitted by the state to handle COVID-19 cases.
