Cameroon: Teacher and wife kidnapped by Separatists released after paying ransom

Bismarck, the teacher who was kidnapped alongside his wife, Delphine in Nkum, Bui Division of Cameroon’s North West Region, by armed members of the Ambazonia Defense Force, (ADF) have been released.

They were set free Thursday May 24, 2023 after spending some weeks in captivity.

MMI gathered that, the couple was released after making a ransom payment.

“………. they were released from Amba captivity yesterday 24/05/2023 after a payment of 300,000frs,” a family member who opted not to be named told MMI.

He added that: “at first, they were asking for 4million FCFA, and they later brought it down to 1million and then to 300,000frs, because the family could not afford the money initially requested.”

It should be recalled that Bismarck and his wife were kidnapped together with other teachers — for allowing kids to sit in for the government Common Entrance Examination that was written on May 11, 2023.

Other teachers were released but Bismarck and his wife were held back and forced to pay cash before they could regain their freedom.

Local sources said they were held at a Separatist Camp Yelum, a locality in Nkum Sub-Division.
