Cameroon: Tibati Lamido dies, leaves subjects in shock

The Lamido of Tibati, in Cameroon’s Adamawa Region, His Majesty El Hadj Hamidou Mohaman Bello, was announced dead in the evening of Friday, May 12.

The head of the Lamido’s communication office, El Hadj Ouba Ali Mohaman, made the announcement on his official Facebook page, but revealed no details on the cause of his death.

“The Editorial Board of the Lamido de Tibati page is deeply saddened to announce the death of His Majesty El Hadj Hamidou Mohaman Bello, 20th Lamido of Tibati, which occurred this evening in Tibati,” El Hadj Ouba announced.

“The editorial board sends its many followers the most saddened condolences. May Allah have mercy on him,” he further wrote.

Tributes began streaming in as soon as soon as the traditional ruler was announced dead. Many lauded him for working hard to develop his community.

Condoling with the people of Tibati, the Lamido of Banyo said: “Words are not enough to express our sadness, much less describe the sorrow that lives in us at this moment of sadness. It is with empathy that we send our sincere condolences to the brother peoples of the Lamidat of Tibati, its population, its biological family.”

Also, a native of Tibati said the late Lamido was, “The only Lamido in the northern part driving the growing development of his locality. He loved Tibati. He loved the people of Tibati. He was the only Lamido who communicated permanently about his city, its inhabitants, its elites, and its history.”
